Goodbye Radio Shack

Owosso, Mi, - After being a staple in Owosso for almost 60 years One of the last Radio Shack stores in Michigan closed today, March 11, 2022.

It was in the early 1960s when John and Connie Blancett opened the Radio Shack store in Downtown Owosso. For almost 60 years the store was a staple in the community. Talking with Bill the founder's son-in-law he stated that it was a sad day for the family, but the closure was inevitable.  Bill stated that America has become a throwaway society and unlike people 60 years ago wanting to build their own electronics, repair or upgrade the new generation simply buys and tosses.

RadioShack is an American retailer founded in 1921.

At its peak in 1999, RadioShack operated stores named RadioShack or Tandy Electronics in the United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada. Outside of those territories, the company licensed other companies to use the RadioShack brand name in parts of Asia, North Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean

The company could not keep up with the rapidly changing market. Society was becoming more and more a throwaway society where people did not repair or build their own electronics but bought as cheap as possible and then discarded it to buy new.

The company went bankrupt.

In November 2020, Retail Ecommerce Ventures (REV), a holding company owned by Tai Lopez and Alex Mehr, acquired RadioShack.[10] RadioShack operates primarily as an e-commerce website, a network of independently owned, franchised RadioShack stores, and a supplier of parts for HobbyTown USA

There are still approximately 350 stores left in the world.
