Owosso, Mi. - The Bridge Magazine Claims There Is More Weed In Michigan Than People To Consume It!
Freewheelin' Franklin always said, “Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope.” For those of you that remember reading The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, the underground comic about a fictional trio of stoner characters, created by the American artist Gilbert Shelton in the 1960s –70s.
Seriously though the Bridge Magazine just completed a study and published a story about the legal Marijuana – Industry in Michigan. The Bridge reported,
We wanted to understand why the trends in our local legal-marijuana industry seem to buck the norms of supply and demand. As it turns out, Michigan is seeing not only record demand but also a record supply of pot, thanks to the quick growth of large-scale growing operations around the state. Recent data from the Michigan Marijuana Regulatory Agency shows that there is 55 times more marijuana on the market now versus two years ago, and the rate of purchase has increased sixteen-fold.
For small and mid-sized growers, this situation has driven prices so low that they’re struggling to make a profit. “The smaller guys can’t compete at [the current] price level and they’re not going to find that out till it’s too late,” noted Justin Palmatier, who owns Lake Effect and Doja dispensaries in Portage. He worries that some of them will be forced to shut down, which will ultimately drive prices back up.
Other growers we spoke to predicted that farmers will continue to struggle until more cities allow marijuana shops to open or the state limits the number of licenses a grower can have at one time. At the moment, nearly 80 percent of Michigan municipalities prohibit the sale of marijuana, and it’s up to municipalities to regulate how much is grown within their borders.
No matter your stance on legalized marijuana, this industry will likely have an impact on your community, and the economic ramifications will continue to be felt throughout Michigan.
What about in Owosso and Corunna? There are three dispensaries open in Owosso, and two more supposedly coming with one in Corunna in front of the Old Kmart Plaza and the other on Corunna Ave in Owosso. However, there are several large growing operations in Owosso as well as a 68-acre outdoor grow facility in Corunna.
And we are told that several more growing facilities are planned for or are being constructed in Shiawassee County.
Has Michigan reached the saturation point as other states have?
